In September 2014 we found ourselves kicking back in Bali (thank you AirAsia for your regular and insanely cheap sale fares). We flew into Denpasar and headed straight out to Uluwatu for the next 5 days. Uluwatu is beautiful, the surf was firing and the boys were out there morning and afternoon everyday (too big and shallow for me eeep!)
Uluwatu
There are locals who sit at the top of the cliffs and take photos of the surfers, then as you’re walking up the keyhole they show you what they took and you can then barter away for a CD with the images, pretty cool!
Sneaky afternoon barrels..
We stayed walking distance (5mins) to the beach, Sandat Mas cottages, basic but had a pool and breakfast was included for about $30 a night.
Make sure you hire scooters ($5 a day with board racks) and explore the area. We went to the temple at sunset (SO crowded but really nice)! Be careful of the monkeys…Dan had his peanut bag snatched and Jared had his bag with wallet etc taken (we managed to get it back luckily), monkeys freak me out..On our most recent trip Tegan got bitten by a monkey, check out what to do here – Monkey bite in Bali
The beach is also really nice, head down through the keyhole and around the corner.
Uluwatu surf villas (100m from our accom) does daily yoga ($10 a session) in the most amazing location. To one side is the ocean and the other bush! There is also a really epic cafe if you head in the direction of Bingin, called Buddha Soul. *Pro Tip* Head there for breaky, lunch or dinner (or for all of them!) SO good.

Canggu
As soon as the swell drops you can expect about 1000 people out at Uluwatu..So we moved on to Canggu for the next 2 days where we surfed and had a night out in Kuta…ending at 6am after a 2hr scooter ride home as no one knew how to find the villa haha! Canggu is about 30-ish minute drive away from Seminyak/Kuta depending on traffic. It’s not so built up here with rice paddies all around and the beach nearby. The private pool in our villa was pretty sweet too…
