Here’s a fun fact, I (Tegan) am 1/4 Welsh, my Granddad was a born and bred Welshman! So lucky for us, I have relatives there! Most of whom I hadn’t met but took us in and showed us a good time. Thanks! To get here we jumped on the National Express bus. There seem to be 2 big bus companies in the UK- Megabus and National Express. London to Wales for about $60 each, which is about half the price of the train. It’s a 4ish hour drive but it’s beautiful driving through the countryside. We arrived in Solva to an absolutely gorgeous cottage where my great Aunty and Uncle live. It’s a magical magical spot.
We landed at Heathrow, London early (6am) and after getting a bus to our accommodation (Air BnB) in Battersea we thought it was a good idea to head straight back out to try and stay awake for the day so our bodies could adjust. Definitely should’ve had a quick nap first, 24hrs of travel and another full day is very exhausting!! Public transport makes getting around London very easy and with the City Mapper mobile app it’s practically fool proof. Download it if you’re headed to Europe. It has other cities on it too and it gives you all the public transport options of getting around. Also if you pre-load a map it still works without wifi so you can see how lost you are! At the end of March we spent 3 days on a liveaboard dive boat on the outer reef in Cairns and it was SO MAGICAL. We stayed at Yorkeys Knob when we arrived with the most lovely lady through Air BnB, she went above and beyond and picked us up from the airport, cooked us dinner and dropped us back into Cairns the next morning too, THANKYOU! Her house was awesome and super close to the beach. We went down for an afternoon swim (in the designated stinger nets so we didn’t die of course) and then again for sunrise the next morning. Couldn’t believe the water temperature though- by far the warmest sea water we’ve ever swam in, must’ve been about 30 degrees. Continue Reading
3 weeks in Nelson and Tauranga visiting family before taking off on our big adventure 🙂 Thanks to Aunty Lynn and Uncle Lyn for having me stay, taking me over to see Golden Bay and for loading me up with green smoothies and healthy goodies! Oh and thanks so much for all the t-shirts and tea towels! Mum and Dad love them. Continue Reading
We didn’t really have a great camera for the majority of our time in Perth but we did get to do a lot of exploring. We went up to Kalbarri and down to Albany and many places in between. But barely scratched the surface of this huge state!
A few snaps of surfing the Surfing Perth, the wild West Coast of Australia…It very rarely gets good and is always ridiculously crowded here. Generally you can find some surf most weekends. We had one weekend of incredible waves at Trigg Beach (A smidge north of Scarborough).
Stand up Paddle Boarding in Cottesloe with mi muchacha. We hired 2 boards from the North Fremantle Board Store- $35 each for 24hrs (By far the cheapest around!!) and headed to Cottesloe to give it a go… The wind picked up pretty early but we got a feel for it and caught a few tiny waves, yew! Rest in peace to the most amazing little dog a girl could ask for. It’s so unfair and horrible how you went but my heart is so filled of love from the 8.5 years I had with you. I still remember the day mum and dad finally let me have a dog (it took 2 years of pleading!) and we got to go pick you up. You could fit in the palm of my hand. You were so precious! Rottnest Island is super easily accessible from Perth, the ferry runs daily and a return ticket is about $80ish. It’s a really great little getaway from Perth and only a short distance. The island is 19 km² and there are no cars on it so you hire bicycles (or bring your own) and cycle around! Continue Reading
About a 10min boat trip from Rockingham, Western Australia is Carnac Island. A nature reserve inhabited by A LOT of tiger snakes, sea lions and dolphins. We are lucky enough to have awesome friends with a boat who were keen for a day trip there (LOVE you Ness & Darchy).
